Week 3 Journal Pages

This week we are taking our journal ages a step further by adding doodles. I added doodles as well as a bit more collage on the pages. I als0 decided to make an additional page (pink).

I am really enjoying this online class. I never really worked on journal pages prior to this month, and I have learned a lot from this class as well as from pushing myself to journal each day with Misty Mawn. As you can see, I have fallen off of Misty's wagon. lol

I have also taken the plunge into Facebook. I follow several blogs everyday, and while reading Ginny Small's blog a few days ago, she mentioned that she had joined Facebook. I have had a Facebook page for several months, but never updated it or looked for friends. I decided to add Ginny as a friend, and as a result found that there are so many like minded mixed media artists as well as quilters out there. What fun!

I waffled back and forth between quilting and art. These days I am working on a quilt for our king-sized bed. This will be my first really large quilt, so although I have a fairly simple block, it is going to take me longer than I had planned for this endeavor. Thankfully, I only need to piece the quilt. I have a wonderful woman who quilts my quilts and since she is local, there is no added cost of mailing it to someone across the country and waiting up to a year to get it back.

As I mentioned a few months ago, I took a part time job. After three months, I decided I didn't like working part-time (our accountant will approve) so I have more time to work on my art. Since I don't really like the dark days of winter, I thought being in the bright sometimes friendly environment of a store would lift my spirits. It did for a few months, but the long hours of standing took its toll on my knees. So I am back home, and very happy about it.

Well, back to piecing....

My new favorite pen

While browsing a magazine today I noticed an add for the Sharpie Pen. I think I had seen an add on tv about these pens, but didn't pay much attention. Since I hve been working on journal pages the past couple of weeks, I have experience smearing as well as having a hard time getting the pen to work on paint. I think this new (for me) pen will do the trick. It has a fine tip and is waterproof, so I am in heaven. Doesn't take much to make me happy huh? lol

Week 2 collage pages

As previously mentioned, I am taking an online class with Pam Carriker entitled Visual Journaling. We are in the second week of the class. In the first week, we started our backgrounds and in the second week we are adding embellishments to our pages. Really fun and interesting class. Next I understand we will enhance these pages further. Stay tuned.

A New Day

As with millions of others, I spent the day yesterday glued to the television. Although I live 15 miles outside of DC, there was no way that I wanted to brave the cold, or stand for hours in those crowds for the ceremony. I enjoyed it all warm and cozy at home. It really felt good to be an American, and to see this day come. I really enjoyed watching the emotion and jubilation of the people, and hope that those feelings will last now that the big job begins.

Red Journal Page and new notebooks

Red is my favorite color, so I was not unhappy to have this color as our jounal page for the day. Thanks Misty. I also worked on notebooks today. These will be on Etsy shortly.

Visual Journaling Class

This is week one of an online visual journaling class. In this week's class we are working on our backgrounds. I have only done one so far, but plan to practice more this weekend.

I also made the "white" page for Misty Mawn's journal page. Good thing I am off for the next few days, because there is a lot of painting and sewing to do. I am working on more fabric notebooks and hope to have a couple ready for Etsy by Saturday.

Orange and Green Journal Pages

The Misty Mawn challenge for yesterday and today were the colors orange and green.

Have missed a couple of days in Misty Mawn's monthly journal challenge, but here is my "blue" submission.

New Portfolio

With all the talk about journals this new year, I have been making small fabric journals and creating journal pages. I had a yearning to create something new and thought for two days on how to do it. To some this may not be a big deal, but as a person who often works from a pattern, (except for art quilts and my fabric journals) I am happy with the end result. It is a soft bound portfolio. It has a Velcro closure, when opened, it reveals a notepad, pen, and a slot for business cards. The note pad has a slot so that the pad can be replaced when filled. What do you think? I plan to place it and others on my Etsy site soon.

Another journal

Spent today working on more journals. I wanted to put a slightly different take on it, so the new journals will be made with papers that will support watercolor art and acrylic painting.

Now I need to get to work on my journal page for the day.

More Fabric Journals

I am back to making more soft journals using Timtex and Fast 2 Fuse. I love using my scrap fabrics and a lot of my newer fabrics to make these journals. There are still a fre on my Etsy site, but I plan to have a lot more on the site very soon. I am thinking about making them larger, like a portfolio size.

Journal Challenge Page 4

Since I deceided to use a smaller journal, drawing and coloring a picture was so much easier. No this painting is not a self portrate, but I do enjoy drawing faces, and as with all things, the more I draw, the better they are getting. I' think I will draw again tomorrow, stay tuned...

Journal page #3

I just realized one of the reasons I am having so much trouble with my journal pages...my journal is way too big. It measures something like 14 x 11. What was I thinking... I am using a smaller journal tomorrow. lol I didn't have a lot of time today, so while watching CNN this afternoon, I started doodling and ended up drawing a house, and some flowers. Decided to color the house and flowers with my watercolor pencils, to see how well the paper would hold up without being gessoed first. It wasn't the best surface for watercolors, but it was okay. My doodles look like an elementary kid did it, but, oh well, its my entry for today.

Day 2 (for me) of the Journal challenge

Part of my angst of joining the journal challenge, was what would I journal about. As you can see I am really stressing out about this..lol

Today and perhaps for the next few days, I will be dreaming of spring. I am not a great lover of winter; and the first sign of spring is much anticipated. Yes, I suffer from allergies and all the other things that happen in the spring, but theses things are well worth the beautiful flowers peaking through and the wonderful blooming trees.

One month Journal challenge

Misty Mawn offered a daily journalling challenge for the 31 days of January 2009. After pondering the idea for a few days, I decided to jump in on day three. Always late to the party. I am a bit nervous about this not only because I rarely if ever journal, but I will be sharing daily art for all to see. Gulp! Here is today's journal page.
